Meet new Board members Ali & Phil

Published on 23rd March 2020 in Uncategorised

Congratulations to Alison Gatland and Phil Richards who successfully nominated for Board positions. Don Parsonage was elected unopposed as President. Both Ali and Phil supplied profiles of themselves. Keep reading – Introducing myself – Ali Gatland. I have been a member of Monash for the last 7 years having returned to Australia from a period working overseas. Originally from Scotland where I grew up playing golf – so in total have played golf for over 40 years!

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Monash, captaining the ladies grade team several times and being part of the squad. This year I organised the mixed pennants team– which has been a great success and introduced several new players to match play and brought many different golfers together – which is what golf should be all about.

We are heading into extremely difficult economic times currently and I am seeking your vote to be part of the board to advise and help where needed to keep Monash where it stands today as an outstanding golf club in Sydney. I hope my knowledge and golfing experience alongside my 25 years working in business and project management will be a positive addition to the board.

Phil Richards –

I joined Monash in August of 2015 and enjoy playing at our wonderful club most Wednesdays and weekends (my few injuries notwithstanding!!!).  Since joining, I (along with my wife Helen) have found Monash to be a most superb golf course and Club.  The operation of the Club is extremely professional, the course is simply stunning, and the members are a joy to play a round (and socialise) with.

Having been so impressed with Monash, I have decided to stand for Director to help ensure Monash remains one of the Northern Beaches pre-eminent A grade private golf clubs.

I am keen to see Monash continue to have a strong vision with clear, actionable strategic plans thus allowing the Club’s Committees, Executive and staff to continue their exceptional work bringing these plans to fruition.  I am a firm believer in knowing where we want to be so that the things we do on a day to day basis accords with this vision.  I want to ensure that we continue to deliver a very high quality golfing and social experience for our Members and their Guests and that, from a financial perspective, we live within our means.

By way of background, I have 35 years’ experience in banking and finance, having worked for a number of international and Australia commercial and investment banks.  My final 20 years were spent at Macquarie Bank here in Sydney where my areas of expertise were in treasury related matters and the general financial management of Macquarie Group and it’s divisions. Prior to coming to Sydney in 1996 I was a member of Cottesloe Golf Club in Perth for approximately 10 years.
