Course Update 22 Feb

Published on 22nd February 2020 in Uncategorised

Report from Superintendent Rob Sain – The course has cleaned up extremely well after Tuesday night’s strong winds. The member volunteers were once again great help, working closely with greenstaff to remove mass amounts of debris on course. We have been running tractor trailers nonstop, for the last two days, this to remove fallen trees and help out contractors. We have managed to remove a large amount of the fallen trees, concentrating on the ones close to tees, greens and fairways. We also managed to have two contractors in today, working on both the 11th and 4th holes.

4th Hole Works

The 5th hole was closed Friday, this gave access for tree contractors to park chipper on the 5th tee.

Track matts were used to ensure there was no damage to the turf.

The majority of the large fallen trees were removed, leaving a few large logs which will be moved with the excavator and stump ground next week.

These works will include finishing of the 5th, Driving range, 7th and 12th holes.

11th Hole Works

Large branches fell on the 11th tee. The branches smashed the concrete kerb and soil bin. Green staff managed to removed the branches off the 11th tee on Thursday, the trees had to be removed due to their unstable condition. Work is planned to clean up the area and address the broken kerbing and soil bin.

Other

  • There are still lots of large and small tree stumps on course, a stump grinder has been booked in to remove these next Friday 28th

  • Stump grindings will be removed and areas turfed next week

  • Course has been completely mown, all fairways, tees, rough, surrounds and approaches.

  • The course bunkers were cleaned out and raked this afternoon, unfortunately time did not permit to get the old fairway bunkers back into play on holes 1,6,9 and 15, they will remain GUR for the weekend.

A big week with lots of overtime to achieve the above, we will continue to cleanup and get back on track next week.

Unfortunately after nearly having the course back to normal, we received 24mm of rain after 4am Saturday morning which has made the course very heavy underfoot. Carts have been called off for the weekend. We apologise to members.
