Into the third round of matches and the mixed pennants team have their first home match. The opposition arrived very early for a long practice and seemed very keen for the victory, however after a slow start, Monash played some fantastic golf to win 4 matches out of five and secure the reserve match. Three of the wins were very comfortable however the other matches went to the wire, with the last match finishing in virtual darkness.

Monash were led away by Eileen Rodwell and Russell Pearse, a great pairing in both of our seasons in this competition. This was a very close match with Eileen and Russell playing some excellent golf, unfortunately the male player on the opposition was off a high handicap and playing like a much lower marker. With the match finely poised, the opposition finished birdie, birdie to defeat Russell and Eileen by 1 hole.  Next off were Anna Krebs and Cameron Fink. After starting slowly and going 3 down, Anna holed a long putt on 11, to win the hole. After that Cameron and Anna’s short game managed to put plenty of pressure on the opposition, which lead to an excellent two holes victory for the team. Third off were Angela Eksteen and Glenn Hooker, who have proved to be a superstar pairing for us this year. Angela had an early birdie and Glenn provided solid support. They were always in control of their match and when Angela sunk a monster putt on 16, they had secured a very comfortable 4&2 win.  At Number 2, Anne May and Rob Stewart were playing their second match together and have really started to gel, stepping up for each other when required. Anne with her usual solid short game and Rob playing some beautiful irons into the green. From the turn, they were always in control of their match and when Rob holed his bunker shot on 14 for a birdie, the match was almost over. The inevitable victory for Anne and Rob was secured on the very next hole with a 5&3 win. In the Number 1 match, we had one of our star players in Ali Gatland and Norbert Kerbs in his debut season for the team. The opposition started very well, with Ali playing some great golf and Norbert struggling to find his form. After 9 holes, Ali and Norbert were 3 down. However on the back nine, both Ali and Norbert really fired, combining very well. A run of four winning holes in a row, capped off with a one in a million shot from Norbert in the wood chippings on the bank past the path on the 13th got them back on track. The opposition came back strongly but with the match heading up the 18th in near darkness, Ali and Norbert secured a 1 hole victory. In the reserve match Lyn Gray and Max Gray have really started to combine well. Some massive drives and fairway shots from Max, combined with great short play from both Lyn and Max, meant that they were always in control of this match. They finished off the match on the 16th green for a 3&2 victory.

Thank you to all those members who came out to watch and support the Mixed Pennants team on Sunday, it was amazing support and was so good seeing 30 odd people around the 18th Green as the last couple of matches came in.

Next Sunday, the Mixed Pennants team are away again in the reserve fixture at Beverley Park. Happy Golfing!!!
