Championship Update

Over the last week we have seen all the semi-final matches in both the Ladies and Men’s Club Championships been played in great spirits. Congratulations to all the finalists who will be playing in the Monash Gala Day this coming Sunday, the 26^th of November. We highly encourage those who can make it to come out and cheer on our golfers as there will be a great standard of golf on display. The Gala Day is an event on the calendar that a lot of people look forward to due to the atmosphere around the club, therefore we recommend being a part of it if possible.

Good luck to the following players in their Grand Final matches:

Men’s Championship (36 Holes):

Spencer Morgan vs Sunil Patel

Spencer caused the upset of the championship downing defending champion and #1 seed Jamie Smith 3/1 over 36holes. Sunil had a comfortable win, playing some superb golf over 2022 finalist Chris Abbott. 

Ladies Championship (36 Holes):

Alison Gatland vs Wendy Harrington

The 2 semi final matches featured 4 of our Women’s grade team, and both matches with hotly contested.  Ali, defeated Gail Hulme 5&4, with Wendy defeating 2022 finalist Linda Lin 4&2. 

A Reserve:

David Brown vs Ross Biddulph

David played well in his Semi against Andrew Bedford to win a close one 3&1, while Ross Biddulph continues to come through in tight matches beating Gary Loupos on the 21st hole, in what was a thrilling match. 

Silver:

Sonia Hwang vs Sunny Cho

Sonia & Sunny, both played first out on Monday morning, Sunny defeated #1 seed Mia Shieh 4&3, while Sonia continued her good form defeating the #3 seed Karen Mayoh 3&2

B Grade:

Graham Shulman vs Allan Novis

The defending champ in Graham Shulman continues to thrive in matchplay, winning his way into the final defeating Geoff Atherton 4&3 in his Semi Final.  He will play Alan Novis who came through a tight match winning 1up over Eric Holmberg. 

Bronze 1: (Postponed)

Claudia Angelucci vs Sara Levy

Unfortunately this match has been postponed after Sara suffered a broken wrist following a fall. 

C Grade:

Greg Israel vs Kevin Hutcheson

C grade saw two thrilling finishes on Sunday with Greg Israel defeating the ever steady Claude Jugmans 2 up.  While previous champion Kevin Hutcheson came through at the clutch against the #2 seed Nathan Smith on the 19th Hole. 

Bronze 2:

Julie Li vs Anne Coates

First timer Julie Li, continues to impress in her maiden Club Championship defeating a tough opponent Rosemary Hickey 2up. While Anne Coates defeated Rossita Lee 5&4 to make her the final.
