But, 2026 was a Pennant Season to Be Proud Of!
What a season it has been. Finishing second on the table and just missing out on a Semi Final berth is never easy to accept, but every player in this squad should hold their heads high. This group gave everything they had week in, week out, and the manner in which we competed is something the whole Club can be proud of. The results we managed including draws and wins that few would have predicted reflecting the character, commitment and camaraderie this team built throughout the season.
Beyond the results on the course, this season delivered a number of significant positives that will benefit all of our pennant teams going forward:
- We built a strong spirit within the squad, we practised together, guys wanted to represent Monash and many still came out to support or caddy if they weren’t selected.
- We elevated the profile of Majors Pennants at Monash, the availability of caddies and supporters for home matches is testament to that,
- Communications raised the bar for the whole Club with team posters, WhatsApp updates, and the weekly squad roster shared on Club Facebook page were all warmly received by members.
- The live scoreboard set a new standard, something other clubs simply weren’t doing. A huge thank you to David Cuda for making that happen week after week.
- The support and interest shown from last year’s Manager and Captain meant a lot to the fresh faces this year.
- Our more experienced players gained valuable competitive pennant experience that will stand them in great stead heading into Masters Pennants later in the year.
Golf has a way of humbling you just when you feel in control, and this season was no different. What made this group special was the way they responded. We managed draws and wins when the odds weren’t always in our favour, and the first four rounds were as tight and compelling as any pennant golf you’ll see, none more so than our second round draw at Woolooware, where every single every match was tied deep in the back nine and every match went down the 18th.
Every player delivered a moment this season that kept us in the hunt and made us all proud to be part of this team:
- Sunil took down Royal Sydney’s Captain 4&3 securing our first away win
- Tommy’s fightback to win at Woolooware ensured a tie against the eventual group winners
- Michael scrambled like only he can and deliver a come from behind tie against Royal Sydney at home then did it again for a win away the following week.
- Mats played everywhere from #2 to #7 for three wins, a tie and being out first at Brighton Lakes Mats got the essential first point on the board.
- Anthony our Vice Captain held his nerve at Royal Sydney when his opponent couldn’t and whilst all points are equal, Anthony’s win was the most improbable that day.
- Spencer’s win in his first game at Royal Sydney signalled the turning point of our season.
- Stuart was undefeated and his tie at home after being 2 down through 15 at home against Royal Sydney showed his true character.
- Duncan worked his way into form and into the team and fought hard to get a tie in the #5 match at Brighton Lakes.
- Chris produced his best result with a thumping 6&4 over Woolooware’s Captain at #3 in round one.
- Garry, Matthew, and Ryan whether playing or caddying, were always part of this team, and their contribution to our culture and preparation should not be underestimated.

To every player, caddy, and supporter who was part of this campaign, thank you. The disappointment of missing a Semi Final is real, but so is the pride in how this group competed, conducted themselves, and represented Monash Golf Club. The foundations built this season in communication, team culture, and supporter engagement set a standard for all our pennant teams to build on. The group is already looking forward to going one better next year.
