CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP FINALISTS DECIDED
Published on 3rd November 2019 in UncategorisedThe semi-finals provided a day of some brilliant golf and fantastic comebacks with a few of the players ruing lost chances. In the Club Championship Jordan Mackay was too solid for Olli Hugill, 3 up thru 18 eventually winning 8/7. Chris Abbott and Doug Cullam produced some classic matchplay. Chris got off to a flyer and was 4 up after 8. Typically Doug fought back to be all square after 18. Again though Chris played some awesome golf and got to the 27th hole 4 up, a stunning fightback from Doug had him 1up on the final hole before winning that for a 2up victory.
In ‘A’ reserve Peter Hickman came across a red hot Graeme Inglis who had a chip in and only 22 putts for a very solid 3/2 victory. Former Captain Rod Fraser and current President Don Parsonage had a very tight game with Rod never ahead in the match. With the match all square playing the last Don hit a great shot from 110m and possibly caught slight downslope and the ball went about 6 feet off the green. Don putted down to 5 feet but missed the putt. Rod was left to make a 3 footer for the win, calmly rolling it in for a victory on the 18th.
The first match in ‘B’ grade saw Shanil Singh playing some very solid steady golf and in control over Russell Pearse to be 5 up after 9. He kept the form going for a 6/4 victory. In the other game Anton Eksteen was playing brilliantly and 2 up after 9 against Ed Guz, Anton kept the form going and was 3 up with 3 to play with victory looking likely. Possibly nerves played their part and Ed won the next 3 holes to take the match to the 19th which he won for a stunning come from behind victory.
Top seed in ‘C’ grade Alistair Barnhill took on last years C grade Champion Yoram Drutman. Yoram was playing his usual steady game and was 1up after 9. The match was tight until Alistair clicked into gear and had a comfortable 3/2 win. Two time singles knockout Champion Kevin Hutcheson proved that he loves the matchplay format, nullifying big hitting Robin Farr. Kevin was 2 up after 9 but Robin’s game started to click. Kevin is known for his fighting spirit and although Robin was coming back, Kevin held on to win 3/1.
